One would never consider that an arrest could be seen as an opportunity. "I've learned to see every challenge as an opportunity," shared Teddi, less than 24 hours after being arrested simply for meeting our group at the airport when we arrived. You see, laws had changed and our Guide and Welcoming Host was not aware. He came into the airport to greet us and because he didn't have a ticket or Boarding Pass, unbeknownst to him, he was not allowed on premise. As the first of our group departed baggage claim and headed out to meet our Hosts, Teddi was being led away in handcuffs to our horror.
Fear not, for I am with you always! (Matthew 28:20.) As Teddi began to speak with the police officer and explain why he was there, Teddi mentioned the name of Jesus and the policeman's heart softened. As we later learned, Teddi was released just a few hours after his arrest and God opened a door for Teddi to begin and continue a relationship with this young man who shared with him some of the personal challenges for which he was facing. A relationship that will allow Teddi to encourage, pray for and with, witness to, and show the love of Jesus to this officer.
Teddi's lesson from this experience? Just like when Paul was arrested and put in jail, Teddi has taken this challenge and now views it as an opportunity...a very important opportunity to be Jesus to this officer and make an impact for his Jesus and His Kingdom.
What challenge are YOU facing today that you could use as an opportunity? Each of us has a choice in how we view our situations and challenges - choose wisely!
In July 2012, I had the privilege of spending 10 days in Ethiopia as part of a women's outreach mission trip with my church. We knew we would be encouraging the Life In Abundance (LIA) staff and individuals with whom LIA worked. What I left Ethiopia with was hundreds of pictures and dozens of stories...all led to HOPE! My goal with this blog is to share many of those stories, names, and faces of HOPE that LIA is providing through their programs.
